As recently as 2015, I had no idea what human trafficking was. As I educated myself and found that it’s the fastest-growing crime in North America, I decided that I wanted my voice to be a change-maker. Once I got involved, I started hear about the people human trafficking affected most — the victims. Since 2015, I have contributed time and money to the fight against human trafficking with the goal of starting my own foundation. I want to buy homes for women who have been victims of human trafficking and help them get on their feet. I created some tools for parents built around having conversations about human trafficking with their kids. The issue hit home for me because I’m a mom of three and my oldest daughter was reaching the average age of human trafficking victims. That’s why I started with R + F — to make a difference, and to raise awareness for parents who, like me in 2015, may not know the dangers, statistics and threat of human trafficking.
